Rocky coves and pink sand characterise Gruinard Bay, one of Scotland's loveliest beaches. It lies in the Wester-Ross area and can be reached from the cottage via the A832 and Little Loch Broom. From Gruinard Bay there are wonderful views across island studded waters to the Coigach Hills. The area is very interesting from a geological viewpoint and many unusual stones can be found in the area. Click on thumbnail for full image
Gruinard House lies on the shores of the bay, in front of a gorge that has been carved out by the Gruinard River. This river flows from Loch na Sheallag in the south-east, below the Torridon sandstone peaks of 3 500 foot An Teallach. The mountains are best visited from Dundonnell. To the south of the bay, the lonely Fisherfield Forest is dominated by 2 974 foot Beinn Dearg Mhor. |
