Durness

A day trip to Durness and back is a very impressive journey passing through some of the most desolate and stunning parts of the Scottish Highlands.

Some of the local beaches are simply mile after mile of unspoilt white sand with the full force of the Atlantic Ocean carving out impressive bays and rock formations.

On route to Durness, you can visit Cape Wrath if the tide is out where Puffins can often be spotted nesting in the sandy cliffs.  You cannot really find a more remote and unspoilt beach on mainland Britain. No visit to Durness would be complete without a trip down Smoo Cave.

You might be surprised if you visit the local tearoom - it's someone's living room and the scones are home baked and brilliant!
